Some touring plans may require council review and approval (rare for Cub Scouts, see below)
Tour permits are no more. They have been replaced by the BSA Tour Planning Worksheet, which you can find here:http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/680-014_fillable.pdf
Here is the good news! You no longer need to do paperwork to do Go See Its!, hikes in the local area, or trips to Camp Durant.
Some cautions here:
See the requirements below for when you need to fill out a Tour Planning Worksheet, which must be done 21 days before the trip now.
You must still have 2 Deep Leadership, at least one Youth Protection Trained Registered adult, one adult trained in Planning and Preparing for Hazardous Weather (Online – 15 mins).
The tour plan is an excellent tool that should be included in preparation for all activities, even those not requiring it. It guides a tour leader through itineraries, travel arrangement, two-deep leadership, qualifications of supervision, and transportation. Don’t forget to review the Sweet Sixteen of BSA Safety http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/Resources/sweet16.aspx
when preparing for activities and always have a copy of the Guide to Safe Scouting (new edition is dated 3/4/11) which you can get at http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/GSS.aspx
Times when a tour plan must be submitted for council review include:
- Climbing and rappelling
- Orientation flights (process flying plan)
- Shooting sports
- Any activities involving motorized vehicles as part of the program (snowmobiles, boating, etc.)
Please complete and submit this plan at least 21 days in advance to ensure your council has enough time to review the plan and assist you in updating the plan if it is found defective. When review is complete, the second half of the plan is returned to you to carry on your travels.
