Dear Future Cub Scout Parents,
Thank you for your interest in Scouting and Pack 216. Our Pack meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at St. Michael’s. A Pack is a group of several Dens. In our case, Pack 216 is made up of about 13 Dens. Our Dens are grouped from grades K-5. The dens are assigned as follows: Kindergarten=Lions; First Grade=Tigers; Second Grade=Wolves; Third Grade=Bears; Fourth Grade=Webelos; Fifth Grade=Arrow of Light. Our new scout "season" usually starts in early September. Parents will usually meet in August and September for orientation and selection of Dens and leaders. If you are interested in joining our Pack and it is after September, please contact us to see if there is available space in an existing Den.
Our Pack is very active. In addition to regular Pack and Den meetings, we have 1-2 Pack activities every month, like camping, climbing at a rock climbing gym, Geocaching with the Boy Scouts, sleep overnight on the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, Durham Bulls and Railhawks campouts, walk in Christmas parades, Pinewood Derby, hiking, and many other activities. Also, we have several activities that we do each year to serve the community, to include singing Christmas Carols at a retirement community, a conservation project for the Town of Cary, and collecting food for families in need.
Please explore our website at http://pack216.cary.nc.us/. We keep it very up to date and you can get a better idea of the activities we do.
There is a very useful document that can be downloaded from our website at http://pack216.cary.nc.us/bylaws.html It is a searchable document that will answer just about any question regarding how Pack 216 runs our Cub Scouting program. We do require that every parent take an active role in the Pack, whether it is volunteering to help organize one event during the year, or volunteering to be a Pack leader. Please see our policies in the bylaws before committing to join the pack.
We are an all volunteer organization. We can only take on the number of boys each year for the numbers of leaders that volunteer to run the program. We must have at least one volunteer leader for every 8 boys that we take on as Tigers. Please consider volunteering to be a leader for your boy’s den. It is a lot of fun and we will train you so that you can be successful.
If you want to join, please visit http://pack216.cary.nc.us/join-pack-216.html and fill out the form there. We will send you an application and contact you.
I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or our Membership Chair, Rachel Sandman. We can both be reached by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
