Frequently Asked Questions

Who can be a Cub Scout?
Children of different ages have different ranks in Cub Scouting. As you go from Tiger Cub (age 7) to Webelos Scout (age 10), you learn new things and new skills that you use to meet new challenges as you get older.
Where you begin in Cub Scouting depends on your age at the time you join. If you join when you're in first grade, you will begin as a Tiger Cub. If you do not join until the third grade, you'll begin as a Bear Cub Scout. You won't have to go back and earn the Tiger Cub and Wolf badges.
When does Pack 216 Meet?

When can we join Pack 216?
The normal start of our Scout year is August, and we recruit new Tiger Cubs over the summer. If you want to join Pack 216 between September and May, or if your child is older and needs to join a Wolf, Bear, or Webelos Den, we need to look at availability at the time you wish to join. Den sizes are limited, and if we do not have space for your child at that time we can put you on a waiting list or help you find another local Pack with openings.
Does Pack 216 wear uniforms?
The uniform is an important part of scouting. Pack 216 has two uniform designations: Class A and Class B. The Class A uniform is the full blue uniform with neckerchief and is the usual uniform for pack and den meetings and activities. For some activities that are particularly active (or messy), the leader will designate the uniform of the day to be Class B. A Class B uniform consists of a cub scout themed T-shirt with pants or shorts as described for Class A. See http://pack216.cary.nc.us/uniform.html for all the details.
How much does it cost to Join Pack 216?
It costs $75 a year to participate in Pack 216. Most of that money is for our Pack activity fund, and a small percentage covers our Scout Council fee and insurance. Your child may also want to subscribe to Boy’s Life Magazine, which is an addition $12 per year.
How does the Pack raise money for all the fun activities we do?
It is the goal of the Pack Committee to hold as few fund-raisers as possible; however it is important that each family supports our fund-raising efforts when they are held. The cost of running the Pack and holding activities is not covered by registration fees- there is a substantial shortfall which must be made up through fund raising. Families are expected to participate in the primary fund-raisers as designated by the Pack Committee. Pop Corn sales are our Pack’s primary fundraiser.
Who should we contact if we have questions or problems after we join Pack 216?
The first person you should talk to is your Den Leader. They should be knowledgeable of Pack 216 policies and schedule and most things Cub Scouting. You should also consult the Pack Bylaws and Guidelines, which are in a searchable .pdf document located at (Download Pack 216 Bylaws). - Lion Cubs. Kindergarteners will start their journey in a Lion Cub den. Each child will work closely with an adult partner on the requirements to earn their Lion Cub badge.
- Tiger Cubs. First-graders can join a Tiger Cub den, where each child works with an adult partner on the requirements to earn their Tiger Cub badge.
- Wolf Cub Scouts. Second-grade kids graduate into a Wolf den. They go to weekly den meetings on their own, but their families still help them work on the requirements for the Wolf badge.
- Bear Cub Scouts. Kids in the third grade are members of a Bear den. They also work with their families to do the requirements for the Bear badge, but kids this old have enough knowledge and skill to take on more of the work by themselves.
- Webelos Scouts. Kids in the fourth and fifth grades become Webelos Scouts. Webelos Scouts do more advanced activities to get ready to graduate into Boy Scouting.
