Academics & Sports Program

The Cub Scouts Academics and Sports program is a supplemental enrichment program that complements the existing Cub Scout program. The academics subjects and Sports activities allow boys to learn new techniques, increase scholarship skills, develop sportsmanship, and to have fun. Boys participating in the program will be recognized for enjoying teamwork, developing physical fitness & discovering and building new talents. The Academics and Sports program encourages a boy to DO HIS BEST. Cub Scouts with disabilities may select their own activities and design their own fitness or academic program with the help of a physician, teacher or parent.

Pins

Pins are awarded to boys who choose to continue their involvement in an Academics or Sports area and earn the pin by meeting the appropriate requirements. Pins are worn on the Cub Scout Academic & Sports letter, or on civilian clothing - not on the uniform.

Sports pins are given in each sport (see Sports Belt Loops) for Cub Scouts and adults to recognize fitness development over a three month period. All the sports pins require the earning of 60 points. One point is earned for 30 minutes spent participating or practicing an activity. The 60 points must be earned within a three month (90 day) period. An easy way of remembering, is to remember "30-60-90". The Cub Scout is encouraged to track his own progress.

Cub Scouts and their teammates may earn one sports pin for each sport in which they participate. Cub Scouts must keep up-to-date records of the points earned by themselves and their teammates. Adult family members are encouraged to participate and to qualify for the sports pin. Please note there are special requirements for the BB-Gun sports pin. Complete details on using the sports program are contained in the the Leader Guide for Cub Scouts Sports and Academics.
